EDS Elevates Government Execs

Electronic Data Systems Corp. has selected George Newstrom to head its newly created Global Government Industry Group, in Plano, Texas, where he will provide strategic advice and direction to the company's top brass. Company officials said Newstrom's promotion "reinforces EDS commitment to the government." It is one of six new positions the company has created aligned with various industries it serves.Newstrom presided over EDS' government business in the United States since 1992. Replacing Newstrom as president of the Herndon, Va.-based Government Industry Group will be William Dvoranchik, who most recently headed EDS' unsuccessful effort to secure a contract from the state of Connecticut to outsource its information technology services. Before that, he was in charge of EDS' federal civilian business.In his new position, Dvoranchik will be in charge of all EDS federal civilian and defense business and some state and local government work. EDS' overall global government business accounted for 14 percent of its $16.9 billion in revenue in 1998. The personnel shifts are part of a broader restructuring announced by EDS Chairman and Chief Executive Dick Brown, who is rebuilding the integrator around four lines of business: A.T. Kearney, which is the high-end consulting business; E-solutions, which will provide electronic business services; business process management; and information solutions, which is the company's traditional outsourcing work.
