The Maryland Insurance Administration awarded a $3 million contract to Lockheed Martin Corp., Bethesda, Md., to install a three-tier database server. The contract requires the vendor to migrate the agency's applications from the existing two-tier client-server environment. The agency is implementing an integrated database solution that will house most of its applications, which include complaints tracking, fraud, billing and contact management.

The state of South Carolina has awarded a contract for statewide Internet services to Info Avenue Internet Services of Rock Hill, S.C. The company will provide general services, dial-up services and college and university Internet programs statewide. The term contract has a potential value of $2.9 million.

Washington state's King County Records Office has awarded a $1.1 million contract to Hart Information Systems, Austin, Texas, for an integrated, image-enabled document recording system. The new system will provide a more technologically advanced, nonproprietary solution than the current system. The deal also covers expansion of the range and quality of "information retrieval services" to the public and high-volume customers. Also, it will allow submission of documents in digital and paper forms and improve document recording and indexing and archival storage media and methods.

The Maryland State Retirement Agency has awarded an $861,000 contract to Brown and Co. of Arlington, Va., for a comprehensive review and analysis of the agency's electronic data processing audit system, to include the audit trail and security controls. The consultant also may have to provide software and hardware.

Chicago Systems Group will aid the Illinois Department of Employment Security as it adds more than 50 Illinois Employment and Training Centers to its existing 14 centers. The centers process unemployment insurance claims. The statewide expansion will cost the department $2.7 million.
