Who's on First?

Nichols Research Corp., Huntsville, Ala., has appointed Carl Monk Jr. as president of Nichols' National Programs Business Operations in Washington. Monk is responsible for business units that support intelligence agencies. Robert Scudamore has been promoted to president of Nichols' Government IT Business Segment. He is responsible for three business units and Washington-based Mnemonic Systems Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Nichols.

Lockheed Martin Corp., Bethesda, Md., announced several appointments. Marillyn Hewson has been named vice president of internal audit. She succeeds Anne Woodyard, who will transfer to corporate payroll systems development in the corporate controller's organization. Hewson was previously at the company's Aeronautics Material Management Center in Fort Worth, Texas, where she was director of consolidated material systems and business management.

The company also appointed James Ryan to the new post of vice president of financial strategies and investor relations. He was formerly vice president of investor relations. Ryan will be responsible for mergers, acquisitions and divestitures. John Montague, former vice president of financial strategies, was named CFO of the new Lockheed Martin Global Telecommunications subsidiary.
Microdyne Corp., Alexandria, Va., named James Ridgell Jr. as chief operating officer of its newly created Oasis Group. Ridgell has held senior positions with Raytheon, IDB Mobile Communications and Hughes Link.

Netcom Systems, Chatsworth, Calif., has appointed Steve Naylor as its first Washington regional manager. Naylor will direct sales of SmartBits units to government agencies, and will lead the sales initiative with other agencies, targeting government users.

Vista Information Technologies Inc., McLean, Va., named Nada Harris as chief operating officer of its subsidiary, TLA Associates Inc. Harris was previously deputy assistant secretary for information technology and deputy CIO for the Department of Veterans Affairs.

APCO Associates Inc. in Washington has made Mark Benson president of APCO Insight, a new division. Benson previously was vice president of political operations for the National Association of Home Builders.
American Mobile Satellite Corp. of Reston, Va., appointed five new vice presidents. The appointments are: Michael McGee to vice president of marketing, Michael Woodruff to vice president of technology and operations, Dennis Matheson to vice president of engineering and advanced technologies, Tom Bowen to vice president of operations, and Michael Fabbri to vice president of corporate accounts.

McGee comes to American Mobile after seven years at ARDIS, which was acquired by American Mobile in March. He will be responsible for marketing, communications, solution development, wireless implementation services and customer service. Woodruff also spent seven years at ARDIS. He will manage the American Mobile/

ARDIS engineering, software development and operations teams.

Matheson has been with American Mobile since 1993, most recently as assistant vice president of engineering. He will be responsible for the technical direction of satellite and terrestrial products. Bowen will be responsible for operational leadership, including managing the company's offices in Reston and Lincolnshire, Ill. He joined American Mobile in 1994.

Fabbri was also previously at ARDIS. He will be responsible for corporate account sales and project management, including planning, development and deployment of new wireless data applications.
