General Dynamics secures $171M Army biomedical research contract

Under a $171 million contract, General Dynamics IT will help put together the peer review panels that will assess biomedical research projects for the Army.
General Dynamics IT will support the Army’s biomedical research efforts under a five-year, $171 million contract.
The Biomedical Research Application Evaluation and Support contract covers scientific, software development and program management services.
GDIT will facilitate the evaluation of thousands of applications annually, finding scientists, clinicians, and patient advocates to serve on hundreds of in-person and virtual peer review panels.
The contract will support the Army Medical Research and Development Command and the Congressionally Directed Medical Research Programs (CDMRP).
CDMRP is a global funding organization that looks for novel approaches to biomedical research. The organization made $19.4 billion in research investments since 1992 with the goal of transforming healthcare for service members, veterans, and the public.
“Maintaining scientific rigor, integrity and transparency in the evaluation of grant applications is critical to the government’s ability to make sound investment decisions,” said Kevin Connell, vice president and general manager for science and engineering at GDIT.
CDMRP’s research priorities for 2022 include amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, breast cancer, epilepsy, lung cancer, ovarian cancer, and orthotics and prosthetics.
