Retired Air Force Gen. Chuck Wald joined the program management consulting firm earlier this year as its next chief executive.

We do our best to track the comings and goings of senior executives in the market, but one slips by us every now and then.

Case in point: Robbins-Gioia has a new CEO as of Jan. 1 in retired Air Force Gen. Charles “Chuck” Wald. The company issued a press release on Feb. 1, but it wasn’t until our senior staff reporter Ross Wilkers spotted a post on LinkedIn that the news crossed our desk.

Wald replaces Brad King, who announced in December his plans to step. King had led the company since 2013, including its acquisition by private equity firm Acorn Growth Companies in 2019.

RG's core area of business has been in systems modernization and program management services for federal agencies. The company planned to use Acorn's backing for pursuing opportunities in technology transfer, production planning and control, IT management, enterprise architecture and business analysis.

As an Air Force officer, Wald began his career as a pilot in 1971 and by the time he retired in 2006, he was a four-star general. He commanded the 9th Air Force and U.S. Central Command Air Forces. He led the development of the air campaign strategy for combat operations in Afghanistan.

Wald's career in industry includes positions at Deloitte, L-3 Communications, and Jones Group International.

“Chuck’s decades of experience and leadership in the Aerospace and Defense space will help support Robbins-Gioia’s vision in framing purpose-built solutions to meet diverse challenges in business and government,” said Rick Nagel, a managing partner at Acorn.
