DFAS launches Facebook fan page

Defense Finance and Accounting Service launches Facebook fan page.

Even as Facebook fights a barrage of criticism for allegedly playing fast and loose with its users' personal information, the Defense Finance and Accounting Service has launched a fan page there.

DFAS provides payroll services for about 6 million military and civilian DOD employees. It launched the page to provide information and greater transparency about its operations, according to the original announcement. DFAS officials will post there several times a week on topics that its customers are especially interested in.

As of the moment, the page has 1,704 fans – or, in Facebook's revised parlance, 1,704 people who "like" it – and the most recent post says: "DFAS has a tool to help medically retired wounded warriors understand how their retirement pay, disability compensation, Combat Related Special Compensation (CRSC), and Concurrent Retirement and Disability Pay (CRDP) pay rates are determined."
