Software firm closes seed funding round to further government tech search tool

Arlington, Virginia-based software developer Second Front Systems has closed a $6 million round of raising seed funding from investors to support the continued development of its flagship platform.

Second Front said Tuesday that the oversubscribed round was led by ARTIS Ventures and other investors included Kleiner Perkins, 8VC, Gula Tech Adventures and Abstract Ventures.

The Atlas Fulcrum software is designed to help government users discover and engage with venture capital-backed, commercially-developed technologies for use in the national security field. The idea is to find dual-use tools made by innovative startups outside of the traditional defense industrial base.

Within the past year, both the Air Force’s AFWERX technology accelerator and General Services Administration have awarded contracts to Second Front for the use of Atlas Fulcrum.

Second Front was started by its CEO and former Marine Corps Maj. Peter Dixon, a platoon commander who worked with In-Q-Tel and the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency to pioneer counter-cartel and counter-insurgency technologies, including the early adoption of Palantir’s software.
