CMS makes awards on $1.6B care evaluation support contract

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services has made 31 awards on a potential 10-year, $1.6 billion contract to help develop measures for CMS to evaluate the quality of health care across the U.S.

This is the second iteration of CMS’ “Measure & Instrument Development and Support” contract that seeks industry help to create and maintain evidence-based clinical quality measures. CMS announced the MIDS recompete winners Thursday in a FedBizOpps notice.

MIDS 2 awardees will compete for task orders to develop evaluation measures related to care quality, care coordination, community health, safety, the overall care experience for patients and care givers, care outcomes, efficiency and cost reduction.

CMS established the MIDS effort to align with the agency’s Measures Management System blueprint for a structured process to develop and maintain reporting mechanisms.

MIDS 1 was awarded in 2013. Deltek data indicates the incumbents not chosen for MIDS 2 were American Institutes for Research, Florida Medical Quality Assurance and Quality Insights of Pennsylvania.
