Help wanted at Labor
- By Roseanne Gerin
- Nov 27, 2006
The Labor Department is looking for help-desk operations support for its Employment Standards Administration, which protects the rights of American workers.
Vendors must manage and operate the agency's customer support, desk-side support, help-desk operations and self-help capabilities. Contractors must provide labor, supervision, materials and transportation for the help-desk operations.
The help desk handles service requests and makes referrals to specialized parties as needed. The agency's system integrates a help-desk ticketing system with phone, e-mail and remote diagnostics that make a record of each interaction.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration needs an information dissemination system to replace its Emergency Managers Weather Information system.
The system supplies a data stream of weather watches, warnings, forecasts, hydrometeorological products, graphics and satellite imagery for emergency managers. It uses NOAA's Geostationary Orbital Environmental Satellites and receiver systems to disseminate and process data.
The satellite broadcast system will undergo a change in 2011 when new satellites go into service. The receiving systems must be adapted or replaced for transition to the new satellites.
