SRA receives USDA school lunch supply chain deal
SRA Inc. has been awarded a contract from the Agriculture Department for the development and implementation of a Web-based Supply Chain Management System to replace the current one.
SRA International Inc. of Fairfax, Va., has been awarded a contract valued at up to $91 million from the Agriculture Department for the development and implementation of a Web-based Supply Chain Management System to replace the current one. USDA uses the system to buy and manage commodities for domestic nutrition assistance programs, such as the school lunch program.
The five-year contract was awarded last week through the Federal Systems Integration and Management Center of the General Services Administration.
The current system, called the Processed Commodity Inventory Management System, is at the end of its useful lifecycle, a department spokesman said. It is based on antiquated technology that limits efficiency and effectiveness.
The new system will let USDA and its customers and suppliers electronically bid, award and pay for commodities, and manage their inventory and distribution through the Internet.
