Army wants UAV sensors

As part of the Military Applications in Reconnaissance and Surveillance project, the Army wants unmanned aerial vehicle sensor packages to detect toxic industrial chemical agents used during warfare.

The project will build on technology to provide a framework that integrates sensors into airframes and gives soldiers the aerial-based tools they need. Chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear sensing capabilities will increase an operational commander's ability to quickly detect and assess these threats. Until now, no UAV-based sensor packages for toxic industrial chemicals have been used operationally.
