Secure wireless for first responders
DataLogic International Inc.'s EncrypTAC is a homeland security wireless communication solution that exceeds Criminal Justice Information System standards and meets other federal agency requirements, officials from the Irvine, Calif., company said.
EncrypTAC lets law enforcement agents use mobile communications to access FBI databases without compromising security.
DataLogic developed EncrypTAC by integrating encryption from Radio-IP Software Inc., and technology from ActivCard Inc. for a second factor of authentication and other integration tools, company officials said.Forget flat, go perpendicular
Seagate Technology Inc., Scotts Valley, Calif., has released a 2.5-inch disc drive built on perpendicular recording technology, giving the drive 25 percent more capacity than other notebook drives, company officials said.
The 160GB Momentus disk drive will be the first 2.5-inch notebook drive to use perpendicular recording, which aligns data bits vertically on the disk platter. The new technique allows for higher levels of hard-drive data density and storage capacity.
Standing bits on end also improves the reliability of read-write performance in demanding environments, Seagate officials said. The Momentus enhancements come without increases in power consumption or heat generation that would shorten notebook PC battery life.Forecast your project
