KBR books $126M Transportation research center IT recompete

KBR has secured the recompete of a contract for IT services to a Transportation Department center that houses research and study programs focused on advancing innovation.

The new four-year, $126.7 million contract builds on nearly 11 years of work at the Volpe National Transportation Systems Center previously performed by Stinger Ghaffarian Technologies, which KBR acquired three years ago.

Work at the Volpe Center involves mission IT services to support all modes of transportation for several government entities, KBR said Monday. Two other companies bid for the contract that was awarded in August, according to Federal Procurement Data System information.

KBR will support several organizations including the Federal Aviation Administration, Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, Federal Highway Administration, National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, and departments of Defense and Interior.

DOT’s Volpe Center concentrates on modernization efforts related to physical safety, cybersecurity, environmental impacts and traffic management.

Projects taking place at the Volpe Center include safety management and human factors; air traffic management and operations; infrastructure systems and technology; and transportation environmental impact assessments.

KBR’s key technology service areas for this contract will encompass cloud computing services, modern web frameworks, modeling and simulation techniques, agile and DevSecOps development, big data, analytics, and artificial intelligence and machine learning techniques.
