The General Services Administration has made awards to 75 companies under a $5.5 billion blanket purchase agreement that will replace the Air Force’s NetCents 2 IT Products contract.

Fifty-six of the winners are small businesses. The Second Generation IT contract, or 2GIT, is for the Air Force to use as a way of buying complex IT hardware.

“The 2GIT program is a great example of how GSA is developing IT solutions that help the federal government meet its mission-critical needs,” Bill Zielinski, GSA assistant commissioner for IT category, said in a release.

Zielinski also said the contract shows how GSA can form partnerships with agencies to help them with modernization needs as they evolve..

GSA and the Air Force have worked for two years to develop the contract, which will be considered a "Best-in-Class" vehicle.

Best practices it brings includes the collection of prices paid data, the ability to track savings, and a reduction in costs and administrative burden. GSA said it will also be easier for contract holders to update their product offerings.

The design of the BPA also incorporates supply chain risk management requirements to address cybersecurity risks associated with IT products.
