Dell lands $231.2M VMware supply pact with Navy

Dell has captured a $231.2 million deal to supply the Navy with VMware products and services through early 2023.
Dell has captured a $231.2 million blanket purchase agreement to provide VMware brand name software licenses and related services to the Navy.
The BPA was issued through GSA Schedule 70 and also covers software maintenance and services.
Three companies bid on the work out of 895 that were solicited, according to the Defense Department.
The Navy will use the VMware products for its data center and cloud infrastructure. Those products will also be used for networking and security, storage and availability, cloud management, network functions visualization, digital workspace, desktop and application virtualization, and training.
The BPA runs through March 7, 2023, and will let the Navy leverage its buying power and use more commercial off-the-shelf IT products.
An attempt to reach Dell for comment was unsuccessful.
This deal with Dell follows the Navy’s November agreement for Microsoft products. Under that $3 billion BPA, the Navy signed up six companies including Dell to supply desktop software, operating systems and tool for virtualization, management, mobility and software assurance.
Other winners there include CDW-Government, GovConnection, Insight Public Sector, Minburn Technology Group and SHI International.
