Coast Guard opts in to DOD electronic health record effort

The Defense Health Agency has added the Coast Guard to the scope of the $4.3 billion contract Leidos has with DHA to implement a Cerner electronic health record system.

In a contract modification released Monday, DHA said that the Coast Guard will join the other military services and the rest of DOD in tying into the system Leidos is building. Technically, the Coast Guard isn’t part of the DOD but falls under the Homeland Security Department.

The move to pull in the Coast Guard comes after it has spent nearly $60 million on its own effort but has little to show for it, according to FCW.com.

The FBO.gov notice didn’t specify a value for the addition nor did Coast Guard officials who spoke with FCW.
