HHS IG wants better analysis of department data

The Health and Human Services Department’s Office of the Inspector General wants to know about possible solutions for big data analysis.

In a new request for information, the inspector general’s office is looking for a technical solution that is a cloud-ready, fully scalable enterprise platform. The solution must also be capable of analyzing multiple large structured or unstructured datasets, identify relationships between disparate datasets, and use a flexible tool to search and filter that data. Lastly, it should provide a data visualization layer that includes network, link, and trend analysis capability.

The inspector general wants to conduct more in-depth analytics, while learning about new insights, asking new questions and making decisions based on the data.

The HHS’ inspector general’s office is the largest in the federal government, with about 1,600 staff. A majority of its resources oversees Medicare and Medicaid, which represent a significant part of the federal budget and affects millions of citizens.

The inspector general’s office issued the RFI Nov. 14. Responses are due by Nov. 29.
