Former federal CIO Tony Scott has joined law firm Squire Patton Boggs as senior data privacy and cybersecurity adviser.
Former federal CIO Tony Scott has joined the law firm of Squire Patton Boggs as a senior data privacy and cybersecurity adviser.
Scott served as federal CIO during the Obama administration with his appointment in 2015. He was responsible for management guidance, budget oversight, governance and cyber issues.
His pre-government career in the private sector includes stints as CIO of VMware, Microsoft and the Walt Disney Co. He also was chief technology officer of information systems and services at General Motors.
As federal CIO, he spearheaded efforts around open source and led the government response to the Office of Personnel Management cyber intrusions, including the formation of the President’s Cybersecurity National Action Plan.
Cleveland-based Squire Patton Boggs has made in concerted effort in the past year to strengthen its data privacy practice through several strategic hires.
These include Tara McGraw Swaminatha, a former federal computer crime prosecutor; Robin Campbell and Elliot Golding, both of whom joined from Crowell & Moring. The firm also hired Pablo Carrillo, Sen. John McCain’s chief of staff.
