Cybercom getting promotion to full combatant command
Cyber Command is getting a long-planned elevation in status to full combatant command on par with other unified and functional commands.
Cyber Command is getting a long-planned elevation in status to full combatant command in a move that puts Cybercom alongside the U.S. military's other unified and functional commands, our sister publication FCW reports.
The White House announced the move Friday and said the elevation seeks to streamline "command and control of time-sensitive cyberspace operations" and "ensure that critical cyberspace operations are adequately funded."
Cybercom will hold its first-ever industry day Oct. 27 in line with its newly-obtained acquisition authority and expanded budget.
"The elevation of United States Cyber Command demonstrates our increased resolve against cyberspace threats and will help reassure our allies and partners and deter our adversaries," President Donald Trump said in an accompanying statement.
The White House's statement does not include a firm decision on whether to separate Cybercom and the National Security Agency. Navy Adm. Mike Rogers currently leads both Cybercom and NSA.
