Find opportunities — and win them.

The Navy has picked five companies to help it with public affairs and media relations functions.

The Navy has turned to five companies for help with a variety of media relations functions.

Under a $42.6 million contract, the Navy will award task orders for work such as communication strategy, media relations, community outreach, and visual information marketing.

The five-year contract is known as the Public Communication and Media Support Services contract and it supports the Navy Chief of Information.

Three of the five winners – Alion Science and Technology, Booz Allen Hamilton, and CSRA – held spots on the incumbent contract.

With the recompete, kglobal of Herndon, Va., and Media Fusion of Huntsville, Ala., have been added.

Other tasks under the contract include public affairs professional development, capabilities integration development, and development of public information materials.

The Navy Chief of Information is an advisor to the Chief of Naval Operations and coordinates public affairs efforts, and implements policies in areas such as visual information and combat photography.

According to the solicitation, the office also works with joint service organizations and participates in management of training, education and professional development.

Most of the work will be done in the Washington area and at contractor facilities, depending on the need of each task order.

The Navy received nine bids on the work.

The previous contract was known as the Worldwide Public Communication and Media Support Services contract. One incumbent, Tessada & Associates, did not win an award this time. It isn’t clear if they were one of the bidders and they were not available for comment. In 2014, Tessada & Associates was acquired by Fort Sill Apache Industries, a tribally owned company.
