OMB planning cyber guidance for contractors

The Office of Management and Budget is planning guidelines meant to boost contractor cybersecurity in the wake of the data breaches, FCW is reporting.

To be published on CIO.gov, this cybersecurity planning is meant to prevent future hacks of government agencies via contractors. The most recent example was the OPM breaches, affecting more than 21 million people, and perpetrated through the hacking of one of OPM’s contractors, KeyPoint Government Solutions.

One of the reasons contractors have been so susceptible is due to confusing regulations from the government, Robert Nichols, partner at Covington and Burling, told FCW.
