Serco has won a $31.2 million contract with the Navy to install the Close-In Weapons System.
Serco has won a $31.2 million contract with the Navy to install the Close-In Weapons System.
The CIWS system is a fast-reaction terminal for defense against low- and high-flying, high-speed maneuvering anti-ship missile threats that have penetrated all other defenses. It is part of the Fleet Defense In-Depth concept and the Ship Self-Defense Program, according to the Defense Department.
Work will be performed in Norfolk, Va., San Diego, Calif., Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, Everett, Wash., and Mayport, Fla., and is expected to be completed June 2017.
