Agilex wins $16M VA contract to go mobile with medical imagery

Agilex has been tasked by the Veterans Affairs Department to develop a web and mobile application for viewing radiological images desktops and mobile devices.

The $16.1 million contract runs for one year, and Agilex will build upon Calgary Scientific’s ResolutionMD product.

The goal is to improve care by accelerating and improving diagnosis and treatment as well as strengthening collaboration and expanding telehealth options, the company said in a statement.

“VA is a leader in the use of mHealth technologies to connect patients and health care services anywhere, changing the traditional facility-based healthcare model,” said Dr. Wyatt Smith, vice president of health care strategies for Agilex. “By applying this same model for clinicians, diagnostic images will become more readily accessible, improving clinician efficiency and care quality.”

The solution also will help VA cut costs and reduce the constraints of traditional archiving systems.

The images will be more widely available, and clinicians will be able to use visualization and workflow tools via mobile phones, tablets and desktops, the company said.

ResolutionMD will let the solution directly integrate with VA’s VistA clinical systems and the VA Mobile Framework. The product also has been diagnostically cleared via the Food and Drug Administration’s medical device approval process.

Agilex has worked on other VA mobile health programs including Clinic-in-Hand (CIH), Mobile Blue Button (MBB), and Patient Scheduling initiatives.
