New WT Insider Report explores prime-sub relationships

Find opportunities — and win them.

Part two of Washington Technology’s Insider Report is out, further exploring the relationship between prime contractors and subcontractors. What do primes really think about their subs?

Washington Technology has published its second Insider Report, further exploring the relationship between prime contractors and subcontractors.

Part one explored the perspective of subcontractors, asking them to evaluate their primes around the key attributes of industry perception, teamwork and process. Part two looks at the other side of that question; now, primes have the chance to express their views of subcontractors.

The reports are available exclusively to Washington Technology Insider members.

In terms of industry perception, primes were asked about compliance of subcontractors, business ethics, reputation among customers, whether they honor teaming agreements, past performance, ease of working relationships, long-term partner relationships, and reciprocity in working together, or when the sub brings the prime in as a sub when they win a prime contract.

For teamwork, primes were asked about the strategic value of their subs, whether they understand work agreement elements, their honesty and transparency in how they do business, their flexibility, communications with partners, participation in the proposal process, and more.

Primes were asked, too, questions about process with subcontractors, like whether it was easy to establish contact, how their business ethics program works, how reasonable their terms and conditions were, pricing information, human resources practices, and more.

There is also a section for an overall rating of subcontractors on how they work as a partner with primes, in general.

The report also explores whether the relationship is getting easier or harder in today's market, and what single thing subcontractors can do to improve the relationship.
