VMWare names new federal leader

Aileen Black, who led VMWare’s federal business for more than eight years, left the company in early July and has been replaced by Lynn Martin, a former Hewlett-Packard Co. executive.

The company didn’t comment on why Black left the company after a successful run that saw revenue grow from $9 million in 2004 to $300 million in 2010, according to her LinkedIn profile.

Attempts to reach Black were not successful, but a source said the split with VMWare was amicable.

Black is a well-known figure in the government market, winning a FCW Fed 100 award earlier this year. She also has served on the board of the USO Metro chapter and is a public sector board member of TechAmerica.

Her replacement joined VMWare in 2012 as a vice president of professional services for public sector. At HP, Martin was vice president and general manager of HP’s federal civilian agencies organization. Earlier, she held sales and services leadership positions with Digital Equipment Corp. and Compaq.

As leader of VMWare’s U.S. public sector, Martin will oversee federal, state, local and education organizations, including direct, inside and channel sales, business development, professional services, marketing and operations.
