IBM acquires cloud computing firm
In a move to bolster its capability to provide cloud as a service, IBM has acquired SoftLayer Technologies.
IBM has reached an agreement to buy SoftLayer Technologies in an effort to boost its position in the fast-growing market for computing sold to businesses as a service, delivered via the internet, DealBook reported.
SoftLayer is based out of Dallas, and has a network of 13 data centers in the United States, Singapore and Amsterdam. It has a revenue of about $400 million, DealBook reported.
The acquisition will expand IBM’s capability to deliver cloud computing services remotely to customers from IBM data centers.
