3 Phoenix scores $75M contract to support sub systems

3 Phoenix has won a $75 million contract to provide engineering services for Navy open architecture and network-centric operations and warfare systems in support of submarines.

Under the cost-plus-fixed-fee contract, 3 Phoenix will provide engineering services to support software development, procurement of commercial off-the-shelf products and hardware and software integration required to improve technology on the subs, the Defense Department said in a release.

The submarines are Virginia-class, and the company will also be supporting other submarine and surface ship systems.

This contract is for a follow-on Phase III of a Small Business Innovative Research, topic number N04-138 – Real-time Data Fusion and Visualization Interface for Environmental Research Data, the Defense Department said.

The contract will allow the Navy to maintain the pace of performance improvement through use of lower power electronics, advanced algorithm design and innovative applications of open software and hardware, DOD said. 

Work will be formed in Chantilly, Va., Wake Forest, N.C., and Hanover, Md., and is expected to be completed by May 2018.

Funds in the amount of $125,000 were obligated at the time of the award, and will not expire at the end of fiscal 2013.
