Bjorklund hangs up consulting shingle

Find opportunities — and win them.

Ray Bjorklund, the budget guru of FedSources and Deltek, has launched his own consulting firm to help companies crunch the numbers in these tough times.

Ray Bjorklund, the budget data guru of FedSources and Deltek, is now his own guru.

Bjorklund’s last day at Deltek was Monday, and today he announced the launch of BirchGrove Consulting.

His plan, he said, is to provide data analysis for individual clients.

“Companies really need hard numbers today to justify their positions in the market,” Bjorklund said. “The market is going sideways, so they need hard numbers to make good business decisions.”

As I wrote in my blog about Bjorklund’s departure from Deltek, if anyone knows how to crunch budget numbers, it’s Ray.

His plan is to work with government contractors, helping them analyze their current markets and new markets they may want to move into. Merger and acquisition analysis also will be part of his repertoire.

“Investment bankers do a lot of due diligence on the companies, but they also need to know the fundamentals of the markets the companies are in,” he said.

The name of his new company is a subtle vanity play, he said. BirchGrove is the Anglicization of his last name, Bjorklund, which is Swedish for birch grove.

As for his departure from Deltek, Bjorklund said the time was right. FedSources and Input, another market research company that Deltek acquired, have been fully integrated into the company.

“It was time for me to explore new things,” he said.
