Altman returns to lead IBM federal

A familiar face is returning to the market to lead IBM Corp.’s federal government business.

Anne Altman has been named general manager, U.S. federal government. Previously, she was general manager of IBM’s global public sector business.

She’s coming back to federal to bring lessons learned from the global stage to the federal space at a “time of great transformation for our country,” an IBM spokesman said. That transformation is a key priority for IBM.

Altman has been an IBMer for 32 years, after joining the company in 1981 as a systems engineer.

During her career, she has held a variety of positions, including senior leadership of the federal business. She took over as general manager of global public sector in 2009, after having run IBM’s System z mainframe group.

Altman is well-known throughout the public sector market. She helped re-establish IBM’s presence in the government market in the early 2000s, after the company sold its federal business to Loral in 1994.
