SAIC research contract supports soldiers in extreme conditions

Science Applications International Corp. has won a $24 million contract to provide research and development support services to improve the health and performance of soldiers working in extremen conditions.

The Naval Health Research Center’s Warfighter Performance department has hired SAIC under a cost-plus-fixed-fee contract, which has a one-year base and four option years. The company will provide research and development support services in aspects of human performance, physiology and psychology investigative studies.

All work relates to the physiological and psychological well-being of military personnel. Specifically, research will be conducted involving the impact of extreme conditions, such as intense heat, cold temperatures, or the effects of high altitudes, and how these conditions affect military personnel.

Additionally, research under the contract will involve surveillance and detection of traumatic brain injury, maintaining the best health post-deployment, and establishing criteria for returning to duty for wounded service members.

The Warfighter Performance department conducts research related to the measurement, maintenance, restoration, enhancement and modeling of human performance in military operational environments, the company said.
