Unisys wins $28M task order to consolidate GSA databases

Unisys Corp. has won a task order worth up to $28 million over five years to operate and manage the database and middleware systems for the General Service Administration’s Federal Acquisition Service.

The cost-plus-award-fee task order was issued by the administration’s Federal Systems Integration and Management Center, and has a 2.5-month base period. The task order also has four option years, exercisable at the government’s discretion, followed by one 9.5-month option period, Unisys said.

“This new task order expands Unisys’ relationship with GSA’s Federal Acquisition Service into new areas of innovation,” said Venkatapathi “PV” Puvvada, group vice president for civilian agencies at Unisys Federal Systems.

The company is to consolidate and upgrade the Federal Acquisition Service’s mission-critical databases and middleware, which are key to the service’s electronic commerce acquisition and document management. The task order also includes an option, exercisable at the government’s discretion, to provide assessment services for migrating the databases and middleware to a cloud-based database-as-a-service model, Unisys said.

Using this model, the General Services Administration would no longer need to deploy and maintain its own database hardware and software, the company said.
