Kapoor resigns as Accenture's federal leader

Kay Kapoor resigned this week as the managing director and chief executive of Accenture’s federal business after less than two years on the job.

The company confirmed rumors today that she left the company to “pursue other career opportunities.”

Kapoor did not respond to requests for comment.

She joined the company in February 2011 after a short stint at ITT Corp., where she was vice president of the company’s advanced information systems unit. Prior to ITT, she spent 20 years at Lockheed Martin.

Accenture has not named her replacement, but John Goodman, manager director of Accenture's defense and intelligence business will lead the federal business on an interim basis.

Kapoor’s Accenture email has an automatic reply saying she is out of the office and to contact Goodman. Kapoor is still listed on the Accenture website as the leader of the federal business.

She also is a finalist for executive of the year for the 2012 Greater Washington Government Awards program, produced by the Fairfax County, Va., Chamber of Commerce, the Professional Services Council and Washington Technology.

She was recognized as a 2010 Federal 100 winner by Washington Technology’s sister publication FCW. She’s also active with the American Council for Technology/Industry Advisory Council, TechAmerica, the Society of Women Engineers and Women in Technology.

Kapoor also is on the governing board of the Arena Stage theater in Washington, D.C.

She holds a master's degree in business from Johns Hopkins University and a bachelor's degree in information systems from the University of Maryland.

Accenture is ranked No. 25 on Washington Technology's 2012 Top 100 list of the largest government contractors with $1.25 billion in prime contracts.
