New CSC president furthers turnaround strategy

Computer Sciences Corp. has created a new position to run its commercial businesses as part of the troubled company’s turnaround strategy.

Thomas Hogan was named president of applications and services. He’ll report to CSC President and CEO Mike Lawrie.

“Tom is a proven performer and his vast leadership will help accelerate the execution of our turnaround strategy,” Lawrie said in a statement.

Lawrie took the reins at CSC in the spring to right the ship. He said the company’s profitability was weak because of an overly complex operating model and a lack of accountability. The company’s cost structure also didn’t make the “realities of business today,” he said.

In Hogan, CSC is getting seasoned executive. He held several positions at Hewlett-Packard Co. He also was the CEO of Vignette.

At CSC, he will be responsible for overseeing the company’s consulting, systems integration, application services and software intellectual property pursuits.

“Hogan is charged with creating an integrated consulting, applications, software and software testing business that develops branded solutions incorporating industry-specific IP and technology from CSC’s strategic alliance partners,” the company said in a statement.
