General Dynamics, EADS form team for border security work

General Dynamics Corp.’s C4 Systems division and EADS North America have formed a team to pursue border security opportunities. The companies will collaborate on developing solutions and services that use GD’s command, control and communications expertise and EADS radar and sensor capabilities. “The combined expertise from both companies represents a perfect match for border protection and security systems,” the companies said in a statement. GD and EADS are teaming on a bid on the Homeland Security Department’s Integrated Fixed Tower program, currently under evaluation. The tower program is part of the replacement strategy for the cancelled Secure Border Initiative Network or SBInet. EADS has experience building secure border systems for countries around the world, and GD’s experience building Rescue 21, a system of towers and and command systems that helps the U.S. Coast Guard monitor the coastline and coordinate rescue and recovery operations. The companies described the partnership as long term. The statement said they will pursue other border security opportunities beyond the DHS tower project. General Dynamics is ranked No. 6 on  list of the largest government contractors.
