Unisys powers IRS excise fuel tax collection
Task order calls for managing, maintaining agency’s Excise Files Information Retrieval System
Unisys Corp. will help the Internal Revenue Service comply with and keep track of fuel excise taxes under a five-year task order that could be worth $20 million if all options are exercised.
The IRS task order under the Total Information Processing Support Services–4 contract calls for Unisys to update, operate and maintain the agency’s Excise Files Information Retrieval System, called ExFIRS.
The IRS uses the congressionally mandated ExFIRS to verify the collection of fuel excise taxes and to analyze motor fuel industry information to identify areas of noncompliance with excise law.
Under the task order, Unisys will be responsible for maintaining ExFIRS code in compliance with legislative mandates and changes in IRS processes.
The company also will provide break/fix software development services as needed.
Unisys Corp., of Blue Bell, Pa., ranks No. 47 on Washington Technology’s 2012 Top 100 list of the largest federal government contractors.
