Appointments seen as important steps in building world-class leadership at new entity.

Anticipating the completion of its Engility spinoff, L-3 Communications has made two appointments to the L-3 Services Group’s executive leadership team who will become leaders of the new entity.

Michael Alber will become Engility’s chief financial officer, reporting to Tony Smeraglinolo, who is currently executive vice president of L-3 Services Group and will become Engility’s chief executive officer upon completion of the spin-off.

Alber will oversee the company’s financial reporting, planning and analysis, and treasury and investor relations functions.

With more than 30 years of corporate finance, accounting and administrative experience with federal contractors, Alber most recently served as CFO and treasurer at Alion Science and Technology. He also has held senior executive positions at Science Applications International Corp., where he served as a senior vice president and group controller, and at Network Solutions Inc.

Ray Guillaume will serve as Engility’s treasurer once the planned spin-off is complete, reporting to Alber.

Guillaume has substantial experience in establishing and managing treasury departments for public companies and rapidly growing companies with domestic and international operations. Most recently, he served as director of treasury at Stanley Associates and previously held treasury positions with Titan Corp. and L-3 Communications.

“These appointments are important steps in building a world-class team to lead Engility,” Smeraglinolo said in the June 6 news release. “With these additions, Engility continues to build a leadership team with the substantial industry credentials and strong operating skills to move our business forward.”

L-3 Communications Corp., of McLean, Va., ranks No. 8 on Washington Technology’s 2011 Top 100 list of the largest federal government contractors.
