Inmarsat Government names new president and CEO

The satellite communications company Inmarsat Government has named David Helfgott president and chief executive officer.

In this role, he will be responsible for the overall business strategy and direction for Inmarsat Government, the May 22 company announcement said.

Helfgott has more than 20 years of senior executive leadership experience across a number of technology and service sectors.

He joined Inmarsat in April 2011 as president of Inmarsat Inc. and senior vice president of business development and strategy for the parent company, Inmarsat plc. In this position, he was responsible for development functions across the group including strategic planning, mergers and acquistions, new market development, technology strategy and government-policy outreach.

Prior to joining Inmarsat, Helfgott held leadership positions in the satellite communications and intelligence, surveillance, reconnaissance technology markets, including serving as president of Cobham’s wireless ISR technology business unit. He also served as president and CEO at DataPath Inc. and SES Americom Government Services.

Helfgott holds an MBA from the Darden School and a bachelor’s degree from the University of Virginia. He also attended the Wharton School's executive development program.

As part of its recent corporate reorganization, all companies in the Inmarsat group, including Stratos Global, Segovia and Ship Equip, now use the brand name "Inmarsat."

And as of Jan. 1, Inmarsat Solutions became responsible for all global direct and indirect sales, marketing and delivery, through four new market-facing business units: Maritime, Government US, Government Global, and Enterprise.
