Raytheon developing software for Navy, others' radar systems

Raytheon Co. will develop software to improve U.S. Navy radar systems and those of several other national navies under a five-year contract worth approximately $48 million, according to a March 1 Defense Department announcement.

The cost-plus-fixed-fee, indefinite-delivery, indefinite-quantity contract for software development support also applies to the governments of Australia, Kuwait, Qatar, Malaysia, Switzerland, Canada, and various other future foreign military sales customers, the announcement said.

Work will be performed in Point Mugu, Calif., and is expected to be completed in February 2017.

According to the DOD, this contract combines purchases for the U.S. Navy ($28.8 million; 59.2 percent) and, under the Foreign Military Sales Program, the governments of Australia ($4.5 million; 9.4 percent), Kuwait ($1.9 million; 4.1 percent), Qatar ($1.9 million; 4.1 percent), Malaysia ($1.9 million; 4.1 percent), Switzerland, ($1.3 million; 2.8 percent), Canada ($1.3 million; 2.9 percent), and other future foreign military sales customers ($6.5 million; 13.4 percent).

This contract was not competitively procured pursuant to FAR 6302-1, the announcement said.

The Naval Air Systems Command, Weapons Division, China Lake, Calif., is the contracting activity.
