Air Force wants wearable computers
The Air Force is seeking input from businesses on developing a wearable computer system.
Hoping to succeed where the Army failed, the Air Force is seeking input from businesses on developing a way to outfit warfighters with wearable computers, Wired reports.
In a request for information posted on FedBizOpps.gov, the Air Force has spelled out its required specifications. It is seeking a ruggedized system with a sunlight-readable touchscreen, an integrated Global Positioning System receiver and a tactile keyboard. The system should have at least 64G of memory and be able to run Windows 7 or later operating systems, according to the RFI.
The Army abandoned its two-decade-long quest for a similar system last fall when it dropped plans for a wearable computer in favor of a smart phone-like gadget called the End User Device, according to Wired.
