ICF takes emissions tech to Asia under USAID contract

ICF International Inc. is taking its green technology expertise halfway across the world to work with the U.S. Agency for International Development in support of the Low Emissions Asian Development (LEAD) program under a five-year contract valued at $21.5 million.

Under the LEAD program, ICF will work with Asian governments, businesses and other organizations to develop and strengthen the policies, institutions, resources and skills needed for sustained low emissions development, an Oct. 3 ICF announcement said.

The program will also help governments prepare national greenhouse gas inventories, including detailed reports that summarize total carbon emissions from all major economic sectors.

LEAD also aims to expand carbon market investment in Asia by working with the private sector to prepare corporate inventories and participate in those markets. The program will promote regional knowledge sharing and experiences, and ultimately build a cadre of local experts for carbon accounting services, the announcement said.

ICF will share a considerable body of accumulated expertise with USAID’s partners in up to 11 Asian countries, David Hathaway, vice president for ICF International, said in the announcement.

“We’ve played an active role in the international response to issues of climate change and the reducing of emissions for the past two decades, focusing initially in the U.S., and more recently throughout the world as we’ve grown our international offices and capabilities,” he said.

ICF International Co., of Fairfax, Va., ranks No. 64 on Washington Technology’s 2011 Top 100 list of the largest federal government contractors.
