Dell Inc. continues its shopping spree to expand its services offerings, announcing a definitive agreement to acquire Force10 Networks Inc., a provider of high-performance data center networking. Terms of the acquisition were not reported in the July 20 announcement.

Force10, of San Jose, Calif., is a $200 million global technology provider of data center services and enterprise networking. Its networking capabilities complement Dell’s data center solutions portfolio, enabling the company to offer customers a broader range of enterprise offerings, the announcement states.

The acquisition of Force10 and investment in networking is a natural complement to the server strength of Dell, the leading x86 server provider in the United States and No. 2 worldwide, according to the announcement.

During the past three years, Dell has taken significant steps to expand its enterprise portfolio to offer customers a complete range of data center products and solutions including the development of an integrated stack of server, storage, networking and services resources.

Dell Inc., of Round Rock, Texas, ranks No. 15 on Washington Technology’s 2011 Top 100 list of the largest federal government contractors.
