ICF hires retired AF doctor to spur health care sector growth

Retired Air Force Col. Deborah Burgess, a physician, has joined ICF International Inc. as senior vice president to oversee the company’s health care technology work with special emphasis on the Defense Department.

She will lead the government technology consulting company’s development of medical education, training, modeling and simulation in support of ICF’s Service Member, Veteran and Family strategic growth area.

The goal of the program is to create a strong continuum of care and support for military personnel and their families before, during and after active duty.

Burgess, a fellow of the American College of Physicians, has more than 30 years of experience in the military medical community, specifically in the areas of battlefield trauma, disaster medicine, advanced medical simulation, medical technology development, and health care learning transfer.

She designed, implemented and led the Air Force Medical Modeling and Simulation Training program that provides strategic guidance to the Air Force Surgeon General on medical simulation, technology development, procurement, acquisition, implementation, and growth.

As chairman and founder of the DOD Medical Modeling and Simulation Training Consortium, Burgess spearheaded development of joint military training requirements, policy, curriculum, research, and joint technology development.

Burgess holds a bachelor’s degree from Tufts University, a medical degree from the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences, and a nephrology fellowship degree from Stanford University Medical Center. She is dual board certified in internal medicine and nephrology.
