NTIA's Daniel Weitzner expected to be named US Deputy CTO for Internet policy

Daniel Weitzner, policy director at the Commerce Department's National Telecommunications and Information Administration, is expected to be named US Deputy Chief Technology Officer for Internet Policy.

Weitzner, who has been a principal advisor to the president on consumer privacy and telecommunications, has been selected for the White House post but the decision has not been announced yet, said a source. Prior to joining NTIA, Weitzner created the Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s CSAIL Decentralized Information Group and was policy director of the World Wide Web Consortium. He founded the Web Science Research Initiative and also co-founded the Center for Democracy and Technology. He has a law degree from Buffalo Law School, and a B.A. in Philosophy from Swarthmore College.
