SAIC team wins $2.5B contract for State's network infrastructure

Science Applications International Corp. will establish a secure IT network infrastructure for the State Department under a 10-year single-award task order that could be worth $2.5 billion if all options are exercised.

The Vanguard II task order calls for the design, operation and maintenance of a critical enterprisewide IT network infrastructure for State’s Bureau of Information Resource Management, which provides IT infrastructure, systems and services that support the department's foreign policy missions, according to an SAIC announcement released today.

Under the task order, awarded through the General Services Administration's Alliant governmentwide acquisition contract, SAIC will serve as the lead systems integrator and business partner for all Vanguard II program components and will assist in streamlining services, realizing economies of scale and providing improved service delivery.

The 26 teammates are composed of 13 large companies and 13 small businesses.

Teammates include Computer Sciences Corp., ManTech International Inc., SRA International Inc., Verizon Communications Inc., AT&T Inc., Northrop Grumman Corp., IBM Corp., Pro-Telligent, Pragmatics and Base Technologies.

Among the key areas that SAIC will provide support are program management, operations of servers, network devices, antivirus engineering, biometric authentication, encryption, monitoring tools, telephony, mobile computing platforms, virtual environment, and enclave security design.

SAIC, of McLean, Va., ranks No. 5 on Washington Technology’s 2010 Top 100 list of the largest federal government contractors.
