SRA's Platinum Solutions will improve crime tracking for FBI

SRA International Inc. will upgrade the FBI’s crime tracking technology as a result of a newly won task order valued at more than $9 million.

SRA’s recently acquired Platinum Solutions will deliver a modernized Uniform Crime Reporting (UCR) system that will improve the efficiency and usefulness of nationwide crime statistics data, according to an SRA announcement today.

Under the terms of the task order, SRA will develop and implement a flexible, scalable UCR system that will improve system and process performance. The new system will have enhanced technical capabilities for providing offense information, reducing turnaround time for publications and special requests for information, and also reducing operational costs.

The UCR program has expanded in scope, importance and size since it began in January 1930 with law enforcement agencies in 400 cities from 43 states submitting crime data. The program now encompasses approximately 18,000 city, county, university, state, tribal and federal law enforcement agencies nationwide.

The national data collection effort produces three annual publications: Crime in the United States, Hate Crime Statistics, and Law Enforcement Officers Killed and Assaulted, which have become sources of data widely used by law enforcement administrators, government policy makers, social science researchers, the media and private citizens.

In November, SRA completed its $90 million acquisition of Platinum Solutions, a systems integration and mission-critical enterprise creating software that helps government customers analyze terrorist activities, arrest violent criminals and improve the safety of prescription drugs.
