GSA's acquisition center reorganizing for new year

This winter will be a season of transitions for the Federal Acquisition Service, according to a staff memo emailed on Dec. 20th. The organization, which is the General Services Administration's primary acquisition arm, is reorganizing.

Joe Jeu, assistant commissioner for General Supplies and Services (GSS), will be leaving FAS. He has accepted a job at another federal agency. the memo said.

 “Joe’s extensive knowledge of all things global supply and his deep commitment to our nation’s warfighters, GSS’ largest customer, has made a major impact on FAS and I wish him the best in the next phase of his civil service career,” wrote FAS Commissioner Steve Kempf in the email to staff.

Meanwhile, after a 38-year government career, Ed O’Hare, assistant commissioner for Integrated Technology Services, will retire. His last day will be January 15. Mary Davie, assistant commissioner of FAS’ Office of Assisted Acquisition Services (AAS), who “pioneered” the use of social media technology in the acquisition process, will take over O'Hare's role.

O’Hare’s “commitment and passion to creating innovative and customized acquisition solutions is well known,” wrote Kempf in the email.

O’Hare launched the Future Commercial Satellite Acquisition program and under his leadership Alliant and Alliant Small Business contracts issued 163 awards totaling about $2.6 billion, according to FAS.

Bill Sisk, FAS Southeast Sunbelt region commissioner, will act as GSS Assistant Commissioner effective January 2, and  Michael Gelber, FAS Northwest Arctic region commissioner, will become FAS Pacific Rim Commissioner effective January 16, 2011.

The following people will take on an acting role during the transition period:  

• Tim Fleming, AAS’ deputy assistant commissioner, will be the Acting Assistant Commissioner for AAS.
• Kelley Holcombe, FAS deputy regional commissioner, will serve as the Acting FAS Southeast Sunbelt Region Commissioner.
• James Hamilton, the Northwest Arctic region’s director for Customer Accounts and Research, will be the Acting FAS Commissioner in Region 10.
