SAIC, University of Md. to support cybersecurity initiatives

Science Applications International Corp. and the University of Maryland are teaming up to support initiatives that promote cybersecurity education, research and technology development.

Through this collaboration, SAIC will coordinate and share cyber-related research between the UMD Cybersecurity Center in College Park, Md., and SAIC’s Cyber Innovation Center in Columbia, Md., according to a company announcement released today.

The idea behind the partnership is “to leverage each center’s resources, alliances and diverse perspectives to build innovative approaches to shared challenges,” the announcement states.

The university center works with government and industry to provide interdisciplinary educational programs to prepare the future cybersecurity workforce, and to create new, innovative technologies to defend against cyberattacks.

SAIC’s Cyber Innovation Center coordinates efforts within the company in collaboration with key teammates and customers, leveraging state-of-the-art technology and thought leadership to fuse ideas, services and technologies into comprehensive solutions, according to the statement.

SAIC maintains a close, mutually valuable relationship with Maryland through multiple initiatives and a history of financial investment supporting UMD schools, including the Maryland Technology Enterprise Institute Venture Accelerator Program and the university's Robert H. Smith School of Business and School of Public Policy.

SAIC, of McLean, Va., ranks No. 5 on Washington Technology’s 2010 Top 100 list of the largest federal government contractors.
