Word has leaked that Lt. Gen. Jeffrey Sorenson, Army chief information officer, has retired.

Lt. Gen. Jeffrey Sorenson, longtime Army chief information officer and a key leader in military modernization, has retired from his post. Today was his last day, a spokesperson from the CIO/G-6 office has confirmed.

Sorenson, who has been the Army CIO since December 2007, reportedly marked his retirement quietly with a send-off on Nov. 4, according to a source familiar with the situation speaking on background.

As Army CIO Sorenson has championed the modernization of military IT, and has been a vocal proponent and force behind the Army's Land Warfare Network, that service's portion of the military's Global Information Grid.
