SRA International will shed its airport ops app

SRA International Inc. is selling its Airport Operations Solutions group to ITT Corp., a provider of high-tech engineering and manufacturing services.

Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

AOS developed AirScene.com software, a comprehensive, Web-based application suite for airport operations using a common database to ensure the accuracy and consistency of all airport system data, SRA said in a statement released Sept. 20.

Earlier this year, SRA announced its intention to sell this part of its Era subsidiary, a privately held provider of advanced surveillance technologies for air traffic management, airport operations, military and security markets.

The AOS group reported revenue of approximately $3.5 million in the 12 months that ended June 30, 2010.

“The AOS group’s strong customer relationships and deep operational experience, coupled with a proven suite of Web-based applications, complements ITT’s culture of providing superior solutions through engineering innovation,” said Dave Melcher, president of ITT Defense and Information Solutions, in the ITT announcement.

“The addition of the AOS group will strengthen ITT’s business portfolio as we accelerate our commercial strategy for growth in the air traffic management industry," he said.

The group has 17 full-time employees in Herndon, Va.; Austin, Texas; and Boston.  

ITT recently launched its commercial aviation data service that is positioned to be a single, trusted source of nationwide real-time surveillance and flight information, which, when integrated with a suite of aviation business intelligence applications, can be used to optimize and streamline operations of airport operators, airlines and aviation service companies.

The transaction is expected to close within 60 days.

SRA International, of Fairfax, Va., ranks No. 30 on Washington Technology’s 2010 Top 100 list of the largest federal government contractors. ITT, of White Plains, N.Y., ranks No. 14.
