Acquisition of Buccaneer Computer Systems and Service broadens Vangent's infrastructure and data analytics capabilities.

Vangent Inc. is acquiring an information technology infrastructure and analytics company for $65 million in cash.

The acquisition of Buccaneer Computer Systems and Service Inc. is expected to close during the third quarter and be a significant contributor to earnings in fiscal 2011, Vangent said in an announcement.

Buccaneer is headquartered in Warrenton, Va., and provides IT infrastructure, secure data hosting and data analytics for federal and state customers.

“Acquiring Buccaneer deepens our IT infrastructure and data analytics capabilities, particularly in the growing government health care market,” said Mac Curtis, Vangent’s president and chief executive officer.

Customers include the Centers for Medicaid and Medicare Services, the Food and Drug Administration and the Defense Department.

The company was founded in 2000 by the husband and wife team of Gary and Heather Newell.

Vangent is ranked no. 57 on Washington Technology's 2010 Top 100 list of the largest government contractors.
